Where is Everyone Supposed to Park?

616 New Units, Only 85 parking spaces. And they're demolishing a 92-space parking lot, leaving a net -7 spaces.

  • 85 units will have a single parking space, and 531 units will have no parking spaces
  • Construction of 3001 W. Empire will replace a parking lot with 93 parking stalls, so where are the cars currently parked in the lot supposed to go?
  • Each side street (Ontario, Fairview, Niagara, Catalina, Naomi, and N Frederic) has an average of 85 spaces per street for an approximate average of 510 spaces. On any given night less than 5 spaces are available per street, for a total average of 30 available spaces. Even if the streets were empty, it wouldn’t be enough for the new residents.
  • Parking is restricted between 3am- 5am on Thornton and Empire. Is the City of Burbank going to remove the red zones along Empire Street to make room for vehicles of new renters? How will this affect the bus schedule?
  • The Empire Project is bounded by the train tracks to the south, commercial and airport to the west, and Atrio to the east, driving all parking into the aforementioned streets.
  • Ontario Street is already categorized a “High Impact Street.” What additional parking will be made available for the cars that are permanently parked at the parking lot on Ontario Street and Empire Street?

Can't Park South

Two of the new buildings back against the train tracks, which means that no one can park in the neighborhood streets to the south.

Can't Park East

Atrio apartments are to the east of Gross Park. Farther East are corporates building with private parking. There is no parking on Empire Blvd next to Burbank Airport.

Can't Park West

To the west is the AmTrack station, Burbank Airport, and industrial buildings.

The only option is to the north

And street parking is already at 98% capacity

Where will new residents park?

With 616 new units constructed and only 85 parking spaces, if each household has only one car, where are the other 531 cars supposed to park?

How will new ADUs affect parking?

Zoning laws have changed to allow residents to build ADUs, often times converting garages. With garage space replaced with living spaces, new ADU residents require street parking. Where will they park?

Where will guests and visitors park?

Where are guests and visitors supposed to park? Will they be driving in circles through our neighborhood looking for parking?

Where will people park for events at Gross Park?

From picnics and ball games to fundraisers and parties, events held throughout the year at Gross Park attract hundreds of people. Gross Park has a small parking lot, with most of the overflow spilling onto the residential streets. Where are they supposed to park?

What happens on street cleaning days?

For two hours on Thursday and Friday, half of each street is closed. Where is everyone supposed to park?

How will the City manage airport parking?

Often, travelers park on residential streets to avoid paying for parking wen flying out of Hollywood-Burbank Airport. Cars are often parked for days, taking up spaces that could be used by residents and guests. How will Burbank address this issue?

Traffic Concerns

Two seven-story buildings will be built at the intersection of Empire Ave. and N Fairview St., with the third built next to Gross Park. How will the city manage the increased traffic from new residents and guests?

Safety Concerns

616 new units are designed for extremely low income people. Will the City of Burbank increase police presence? Will any of the units be used for transitional housing?
